Styles of Music Video

There are many different styles of music video, we have decided to concentrate on analysing and studying three categories of style. Narrative , conceptual and performance. We analysed three videos within the classroom and then were asked to add three videos of our own choice to a YouTube playlist that slotted into these three styles of music video.

Narrative

Bon Jovi - Always, proves to be the perfect example of a narrative story telling music video. It essentially tells the tale of a young couple extremely happy in a hazy summer setting enjoying their lives as a couple, the young man however then is caught cheating with the woman's room-mate.

Conceptual

Queens 'I Want To Break Free' is again the perfect example of a conceptual music video due to its controversial (within a contemporary audience) content. It allows an audience to read it as they wish and has more meaning than a narrative/performance music video and tends to break away from the norm.

Performance

Bowie's completely all performance music video belongs to a different style all together. As shown evidently above the performance element is evident through the camera shots all focused on Bowie and the fast past editing to match his singing. This style completely focuses on the artist(s) and the song that they are singing allowing for a less enigmatic outcome for an audience within regards to the music video.
